Bubblegum

The last time we holidayed in Brittany, I had a bubblegum ice cream. The ice cream was blue. The paint I am using for the trim and edges in the office is also called bubblegum. It’s certainly not blue.

After seeing the actual colour of the amethyst, I thought I’d better use a scrap of wood as a colour test against the walls. My concerns were assuaged. I love it! The office is starting to look like one of those plastic model cars that look like they’re made of bright plasticine.

The day was spent finishing off the first coat of amethyst then starting the second coat on the non-window walls. For a change of colour, I spent the last little while painting some of the pink trim.

For such a small room, it’s going to take a while to finish. After the walls and trim are complete, it’ll be time to varnish the floor and, once this is complete, I can finally start putting in the bookcases and other furniture.

As I’ve posted before, my use of pink (apart from actually liking the colour) is a reclamation of the colour from hardcore gender-centrics who seem to think it’s natural for girls to like pink and boys to like blue. This is, quite frankly, ridiculous.

Right up until the second world war, babies were dressed in white up until they started walking (and oft-times longer). The whole colour thing was a marketing ploy to sell more baby products.

For instance, if all babies wear the same colour then the clothing for the first child can easily be used for any subsequent babies born as they reach the right size. It doesn’t matter at all what gender the child is. However, if your first child is a girl and you dress her in pink from birth and your second is a boy…well, it’s going to cost you twice as much and make twice as much money for the baby clothing seller.

I read one disturbing fact that even disposable nappies can be bought in blue and pink. I mean, seriously? Mind you, I shouldn’t be surprised. After all, we live in a world where people buy something because it looks pretty, regardless of how well it works.

And before anyone asks the obvious…the newspaper is covering the spotlight fittings.
