Do fence me in

The view from the back

Today was the turn of the fencers to do their thing. They turned up at 9am and set to the job at hand immediately. They very quickly had things laid out and had removed the old fence panels, although the old posts proved a little more taxing.

Set up for a bit of fencing action

I can’t say they are not welcome. I’m really not keen on the big open feel of the garden without some sort of barrier. It all feels far too exposed for my taste.

At lunchtime, they’d managed to get a few of the uprights and cross pieces in. It’s already starting to feel more private.

The march of the fence posts

They didn’t manage to finish by the end of the day but they did get all the uprights and cross pieces in. The poor guys looked absolutely shattered. I’m not sure they’re looking forward to coming back tomorrow except that the really hard work is done and they’ll be creating shade as they go with the wooden slats. This is how it looks at the close of play today.

Looks like a ranch fence…just need a few horses now

I forgot to mention yesterday that last night was a Nicktor Night – the first for ages. We drank quite a few beers and watched This is England 1988, which was excellent. I hadn’t told Nicktor about the garden and to say he was surprised when he looked out the back door would be a total understatement.

In other news…I have uploaded some photos of our trip to the Dordogne. You can look at them here.
