As I was shopping this morning, it occurred to me that the weather was ideal for a trip out into the archipelago. I texted Mirinda to suggest it and ask about buying the picnic essentials. Obviously, she didn’t answer so I went out on a limb and bought the stuff anyway. It was the best decision.
Shortly after getting home from the ICA, we set off down to the dock to collect The Bob and headed off, out on the water.
Of course, the dogs came with us and they both enjoyed it as much as we did. Even Freya the Frail who spent the first bit of the outgoing trip on my lap, watching the islands pass us by.

The sky was a beautiful blue and the sea almost flat as we headed out for the island of Askö. We visited a few years ago via the ferry and Mirinda had beached on the sand during training with Jolly Roger last year – with Nicoline for company.
I think out beaching was perfect though, in hindsight, I really should have taken my shoes and socks off first, before launching myself off the prow and into the water. Still, wet runners are a small price to pay for a picnic on a deserted beach, which felt like it was miles from civilisation.
That was until we landed and a couple of dog walkers appeared between the trees near where we landed. Still, they quickly left and we felt like the beach was solely our domain.

After lunch, Mirinda headed off, down the beach, with Emma while I sat back to enjoy a lovely Reading Hour with Freya. It has to have been one of the best Reading Hour locations I’ve ever had.
Freya even perked up enough to go for a walk on the beach, following me when I went to check out an information board not far from our landing spot.
A while later, Mirinda returned full of stories about curious cows, shy sheep and tractor driving farmers.
Eventually, we managed to turn The Bob and launch off the island to make the long trip home. We went via the channel, enjoying the warmth of the sun and splash of the waves.
It was totally the best day. All four of us declared it perfect. Particularly Emma, from the comfort of her preferred cooler bag armchair.

An all round, prefect day for the whole family.
