I was in the Systembolaget this afternoon and a chap said something in Swedish about a king. ‘Kung’ was the only word I managed to understand. When I explained that I didn’t speak a lot of Swedish, he switched to English and said, with a nod at my t-shirt, that the king had died. It was all over the news and, frankly, he was annoyed about the excessive media coverage.
I looked down at my t-shirt. It had Norway emblazoned across the front.
I suggested to him that possibly 89-year-old King Harald V of Norway, after hearing about Dolly and Tim this week, decided he was being a bit churlish by hanging around. So he left. The chap smiled a bit, but I really don’t think he actually got the references.
I still think that, maybe, the king thought there was nothing left to live for with no more music and philanthropy from Dolly and no amazing, sexy acting from Tim.
And there is no need for anyone to be concerned. Yes, I was in the Systembolaget to buy alcohol – beer, wine, gin – but it was not for me. It was for our house guests, the members of Mirinda’s Environmental Humanities Group who came over today for their Retreat.
Originally I wasn’t going to be at home (I’d planned to explore Norrköping) but Freya’s ever failing health meant I should probably stay at home and look after her instead of gallivanting around. It would also mean that Emma would get to go out with the group as they explored the local environs.
So I planned a couple of meals and made some lady’s fingers and bought an awful lot of fruit.
It was very interesting cooking for them given there was a vegetarian, a lactose intolerant fellow and someone with celiac disease. I decided a frittata was best but without cheese, cream, meat or gluten of any kind. It was a struggle, but I managed. I also included separate bowls containing sausage and cheese for those who were tolerant of everything.
Actually, the sausages were elk and came from the Viking Lady at Tofsö Deli. They were super lush. I bought an extra pack for Nicoline and me to take to Lagnö tomorrow.
I didn’t get a chance to take any photos today except for my lady’s fingers. So here they are…or were, I should say. They were enjoyed. All of them.

I should add that there were a lot more than that. I haven’t made them in ages, so this was the first, test batch. And they worked out just fine.
Meanwhile, in world news…
Isn’t it interesting how parents in the US have sued Facebook because it is a danger to their kids, but they do fuck all about climate change which is hazardous to the entire world? Or school shootings. And what a joke it is that Meta can settle rather than be judged in a court of law. Typical American justice. It’s all about the money.
And not about the children they profess to love so much. I guess they just love the greenbacks much, much more.
And I refuse to mention the lake renaming stupidity.
