What’s with the helicopter buzzing around Mount Trosa this morning? I was sitting in my study, paying bills, when the loud buzzing made itself heard. When it persisted beyond a simple fly by, I went out to the deck to investigate.

It was very odd. Eventually, after almost an hour, it flew off, never to return.

Obviously, when we went for our post-lunch walk, we headed up to the summit but, apart from the digger having moved from the top to a third of the way down, there was nothing to indicate that the helicopter had been there.

There weren’t any workers there today so maybe they were winched away. Maybe there’d been an accident that required air support. All I know is that the chopper didn’t land up there. Apart from the lack of any physical evidence, all the trees were intact.

Oh, and it wasn’t a big enough helicopter to lift and move the digger. Besides, you could clearly see where the digger had been driven down the track.

It will, no doubt, remain a mystery. What is not a mystery is what the wooden boxes were for. The ones I mentioned a few days ago.

They are moulds for concrete pillars. And, if they are for foundations, there is going to be a rather long ladder from the ground. (Maybe the helicopter delivered the cement.)

Anyway, we finished our walk and set to tidying, awaiting the return of my intrepid wife to hear her adventures among the wolves. And it was an amazing story which I will leave for her to describe.

After dinner, it was art class time.

Week five saw us hearing about the YBA (Young British Artists) and who decided the canon. It also featured lots of artists who I have actually heard of; their works seen. Tracey Emin, for example.

Everyone I’ve ever slept with (1993) by Tracey Emin (1963-)

And, of course, the ubiquitous Damien Hirst.

As for who decided the canon…these days it is the market as determined by those that buy the works. Charles Saatchi, for instance. There was a lot of discussion regarding his Sensation exhibition of 1997 and how the UK was shocked by the Myra Hindley painting while the US was shocked by the Virgin Mary decorated with elephant poo, and a rather hilarious painting seemingly depicting the Last Supper in an unexpected way.

Americans are so funny. They had no problem with the Chapman Brothers’ child mannequins with penises for noses but depict Jesus as a topless woman and they go ballistic.

Wrecked (1996) by Sam Taylor-Wood (1967-)

I just thought it was funny and reminded me of Bomans.

Next week is the last of this series of lectures and, while not as good as Dr Amy, this journey with the knowledgeable Dr Lucrezia has been very interesting as she leads us up to the present.

But, before I go, how about some stats? I haven’t reported on these for a while. So, these were the figures for this morning…before I wrote this.

That’s a lot of chat about not very much at all!
