Sweet Summer Saturday

It was another glorious day today so we took ourselves to Emil’s Backe for lunch. We were not the only people to think this way. There were lots of others enjoying the same sort of thing that we had in mind. And there were no available tables with umbrellas, which forced us to sit in the shelter, where we sat, protected from the sun and evil spirits.

I don’t know what that thing is but, given we saw nothing swirling about out of the underworld, I figure it was working its magic appropriately.

As well as the good things emanating from the hippy magic, I was also very pleased to see how many people were enjoying the joys of our local summer pop-up café. I often wonder how they manage to stay open, particularly at this time of the year when the place is open all week. Still, as Mirinda said today, if it wasn’t supported then it would close so being open was testament to its popularity.

There were also lots of dogs lazing about in the sun, which I always like to see. Of course, ours were there as well.

Speaking of the girls, Freya was back to being herself today. Alert, eating, growling at Emma, it was the old Freya. Fingers crossed that this is a sign of improving health rather than the effect of having half a pill every day.

But it wasn’t just the food and drink areas of Emil’s Backe that were doing well today, there were also a few people picking flowers from Raije’s big self-service beds.

I realise it looks a bit deserted but I waited until there was no-one in the photo before taking it. Well, apart from Mirinda who is right down the end in the light pink top. Oh, and the people about to walk past her. And there is also a woman behind the bush to the right, well hidden by the foliage.

So, anyway, lunch was perfect, as were the flowers that Mirinda bought and brought home.

Also perfect was how Mirinda fixed her e-reader. She has been a bit sad about it the last couple of days because it just stopped working properly and it looked like she was going to have to get a new one.

She was very sad given she reads about ten books a day. It’s like having a friend who suddenly up sticks and leaves. But, by days end, with a lot of help from some AI helper, she had fixed it. There was a collective sigh of relief.

There was probably something similar in South East England where John was busy preparing a site for this year’s dig.

The site is at Bodiam and the ground is hard baked from the heatwave. Just like rock, according to John. I am partly jealous, but also a whole lot pleased not to be trowelling it back.

Oh, I almost forgot: Especially for Sharon…
