Sunset over the Baltic

In complete contrast to yesterday’s unpredictable yet perfectly predicted wild weather, today was sunny, still and perfect for a jaunt in The Bob. And Mirinda said we should make it an evening boating adventure complete with picnic to be eaten on the archipelago island of Kråmö.

In order to accommodate my wife’s suggestion, I cooked a salmon and leek quiche. It’s one of Geraldine’s recipes.

I changed it slightly in that I made an almond, lo-carb pastry rather than the normal shortcrust that Geraldine includes in her recipe but that made little difference. It was still delicious. In fact, when Mirinda took her first mouthful she exclaimed “Wow! That tastes fantastic!” Which it did.

The other thing that was fantastic was the boating.

The sea was flat and inviting as we glided between the various islands that make up the Trosa archipelago. There was no wind, no clouds and lots of sun. Actually, it had been very hot all day and the cool of the early evening made a very pleasant change in temperature.

There were a few other boats out but it felt like we had the water pretty much to ourselves.

We went through the canal, between the winter and summer pastures, noticing the presence of cows and sheep on the summer side as we putted through. They all took absolutely no notice of us whatsoever. Last year, when we went through, the summer island was deserted because it was so late in the season. It’s lovely to see them out and about.

We arrived at the island to find a big family group staying there. This is in sharp contrast to last year when, like the livestock mentioned above, the summer season was over and all the visitors had gone home.

Not that they bothered us. The kids were swimming and the adults chatting and drinking. It was all pretty idyllic.

There was another family on the island that looked happy as well.

We sat and ate before Mirinda took Emma for a walk while I read and entertained Freya who, it must be stated, was lively and almost her normal self. This happened when we took the boat out the other week as well. I really think she just loves The Bob and our watery trips.

Our journey home was utterly magical as we floated into the sunset. The most unforgettable longest day, ever.
