Blockages and building

The other day, as I walked to the ICA, I came across a huge barrier that had been placed on the footpath near the roundabout. It was in order to protect the walking and cycling public as a big grader gradually cleared the gullies at the edge of the path. It didn’t block me. By the time I finished shopping, the barrier had moved down a little further.

It’s quite the imposing barrier. I imagine they drag it to move it. No-one without superpowers is picking it up. Also, something I’ve just spotted is that cars approaching the pedestrian crossing at the roundabout are likely to not see people as they reach it on foot or wheel.

Then, this morning, as I reached the road that leads to the adventure park opposite the ski lift, there was a sign in the road announcing that work will commence next week. The road is being asphalted. But it won’t really inconvenience many people. The road only goes to the adventure park, after passing the cemetery. (Quite a handy, short journey from one to the other.)

I’m guessing it might be quite smelly in the coming weeks. And, when they asphalt the first bit (pictured) the pedestrian crossing will probably be out of action. For a bit.

Somewhere that is not subject to any kind of blockage is the new construction at the mini putt putt place. (An odd name, if you think about it. Most people know what ‘putt putt’ means so the ‘mini’ is somewhat redundant.) Anyway, there has been quite a bit of construction work going on just next to the pétanque court. (Is it a ‘court’? I don’t know what else to call it.)

They started by building a big wooden platform which I thought might be a big, old school, outdoor dance floor. Next came posts, delineating the edge all the way around.

Then, this week, a whole load of panels, timber and glass turned up. This morning, I walked across the road and photographed the progress.

I haven’t seen anything about it in the OSP (local paper). Colour me confused.

Presumably it will be completed by the time business starts up again for the season.
