Get that monkey off the stage!

The restaurant, Blå Dörren (Blue Door), is a bit confusing because it lacks a blå dörren (blue door). I noticed this when we walked in tonight. In fact, the main door into the place is painted brown. The name dates from the 17th century when it was a pub with a blue door. Apparently, current regulations do not allow the door to be returned to it’s earlier colour.

Disappointing door colour aside, I recommend the char.

We were at the Blue Door that isn’t to meet Lena and Mårten for an early dinner ahead of seeing the rather insane Extraordinary History of the Circus performance at the Södra Teatern. Unfortunately, Mårten didn’t get the memo, or he didn’t read it, so we were three. And, while we missed seeing Mårten, obviously, we still had an amazing time at the theatre.

The show was the backwards story of the circus, starting with the punk style of today, all the way back to the Stone Age. And, while I didn’t understand much of the dialogue (it was mostly in Swedish), it was very entertaining and I enjoyed it very much.

The group, Cirkus Cirkör, has been going for 30 years and this show was their celebration. And the cast (Marie Asplund, Angela Wand, Viktor Gyllenberg, Simon Granit Ossoinak and Tobias Ulfvebrand) ensured we celebrated with them.

Full on energy, acrobatics, contortions, juggling, animals and clowning. It was all there, making a magical night of thrills and laughs. I loved it.

Of the cast, I have to say that Asplund was amazing. Her limbs contort in ways that limbs were never meant to. And her ribbon twirling was gravity defying. I thought she was spectacular.

I would happily go again, it was such fun. I particularly liked the animals. Especially the very naughty monkey who caused mayhem beyond restraint.

It was also great seeing Lena who took me on the big lift at Slussen. I enjoyed that very much.
