Visit of the flower eaters

So the eater of dead flowers has visited us. Across the snow filled deck at the back of our house, were hoof prints leading from the steps to the French doors outside the kitchen. Next to the French doors is a tin bucket used for compost. It hasn’t been emptied because the snow is still too deep for me to walk through. On the top of the bin was a bunch of dead tulips. This morning, when I let the dogs out to go to the toilet, the dead flowers were gone.

Mysterious hoof prints

After Nicoline’s discovery of deer in her garden nibbling at anything they could find, my discovery this morning added further evidence of the culprits.

While we get regular deer visiting our garden, they rarely come close to the house, let alone climbing the steps onto the deck, so, I think, it’s because of the non-melting snow. The grass, usually free to nibble, is mostly hidden. They have found food, via their noses, I assume, and have risked close contact.

Given the metal bin was then half empty, I topped it up with scraps from my usual lunchtime salad. Later, when I put the girls out before bed, the scraps had gone. Our visitor had obviously returned for a nighttime snack on bits of tomato, capsicum and cucumber. I’d love to give them some more tulips, only there are no more in the house. I’m intending to go shopping on Sunday and might see if they have any at the ICA.

And we had some more snow today. At 7am I had a weather alert saying the snow would stop soon. The snow started at 7:30am and, basically, fell all day. I’m guessing the Meteorological Time Machine is acting up again.

As for me, I spent quite a bit of the day in stuff removal from Mirinda’s study. There are just a few bits of two people furniture to go and the pictures on the walls to take down and it will be ready for Harald on Monday. If he can get in the drive that is.

Given my limb incapacities over the last month, I have been unable to shovel the snow from in front of the car which means, the car can’t be moved forward which further means, Harald will find it difficult to park his van behind it. Mirinda has let him know so we shall see whether he actually does start on Monday.

And, the best news of the day, the Swedish women’s ice hockey team, beat the Czechian team 2-0. It was surprising because, from what I saw, the Czechian team dominated the last two periods of the game.

The final seconds of play

This was the quarter-final game. In the other one played today, the US team beat Italy 6-0. The other quarter-final games will be played tomorrow. It’s getting very exciting!
