Gaz makes a path

Today, I watched Nicoline’s face when she explained how much she missed reading my blog each morning. She looked very sad. I realised that I haven’t been writing just for myself and, in fact, I was being selfish stopping. So, I’m back. And, to be completely honest, I’ve missed it too. Also, Mirinda said that I tend to do this sometimes and people should ignore me.

And it’s perfect that I actually have something to write about today, because, since what feels like forever, I went outside and actually did something. Okay, it was only putting the rubbish out and making a narrow path to the street but I managed under my own steam with just my usual walking stick for balance.

It wasn’t all plain sailing. For one thing, I dropped a massive hunk of ice on my tophi which hurt a bit, but mostly, I just ached. I saw it as steps in the right direction.

It took a while – about ten trips back and forth – but my Icebugs served me well and, almost, kept my feet dry if somewhat numb. Actually, it occurs to me that perhaps the reason there was no pain was due to my feet being frozen.

Having won this Herculean feat, I collapsed onto the lounge for a bit of recovery. It felt quite the achievement. After all, there was now a narrow but effective path through the admittedly, light snow and all the recycling had gone out and into the bins.

Eventually I rose and made dinner – spicy lamb hotpot. Which reminds me, I have had an amazing run of good luck with meals over the last few days. Most notably yesterday.

Given a general lack of shopping, I didn’t really have much available beyond a pork loin in the freezer. I decided to ‘do something’ with it and defrosted it. Rather than just make something up, I decided to look at my food Bible: The Delia Smith Cookery Course. And it was there I found Pork Loin Dijonnaise.

It was perfect, meaning I had all the necessary ingredients.

Mirinda said it was amazing and definitely guestworthy. Who knows, maybe I’ll make it for Nicoline one day.
