New arrivals

Kevin and Elena are an Australian couple who, having retired, are travelling the world in a camper van. They have been travelling since 2023 and are loving it. Something else they loved was sitting on our deck chatting, feeling like they were back in Oz. Of course, my accent got increasingly broader as we talked.

They are our newest house sitters. They will be staying in our house for the next couple of weeks, keeping the dogs company, if nothing else.

They made all the right noises when they arrived, oohing and ahing at the house and fussing over the girls. They met with Emma’s approval, so that’s a good thing. Obviously, she was wary of Kevin but she went straight to Elena.

They pulled into the drive around 3pm. We were finishing up the Big Tidy and welcomed the opportunity to sit around and chat.

I’d, obviously, been shopping first thing. On the way, I noticed a big digger filling in the massive hole that had been scarring the back garden of a house. The hole had been dug out while the work on the pipes was going on.

Given it took up the entire footpath, I crossed the road and took the detour through the car park opposite. Something else I noticed was the lack of any signage, instructing pedestrians and cyclists what to do. This is in direct contrast to when they divided the road in half when there were a lot of signs.

Next week is Week 26, the week they’re supposed to be finished. I reckon they might make it. And the people in the house can finally get their garden back. Without the hole.

And, speaking of gardens, Mirinda planted up one of the new raised beds I made the other week. I reckon it’s going to look pretty good by the time we get back.

The weather still continues charming.’
