We went to a play tonight. It was another Riksteatern production. It concerned a couple, Kattis and Matte who have gone away to the beach for a holiday. The plan is to ‘get away from it all’ but things do not go exactly to plan. It starred Tess Paulsen and Dan Johansson who also workshopped and wrote the play. And it was very funny. The title of the play was Blåst på semestern which, according to Google, translates to Blown on Vacation.

At least the rest of the audience thought it was funny. I really only got one bit. At one point, Matte says they better go to the System before it closes at 3pm and Kattis agrees and begins to make a list. Unfortunately, this is where things start to unravel as they start to increase the drinking requirements in order to accommodate the growing number of guests who will be visiting.
Of course, the Swedes in the audience didn’t think it was particularly funny, but then, they’re quite used to having to buy their booze before the Saturday afternoon deadline.
Now, anything I write here is guess work on my part. After the performance, Ms Paulsen seemed somewhat surprised that we sat in the audience, watching a play in a language we didn’t understand. Mind you, Mirinda understood a lot more than I did.
It was a pity really because the cast regularly left the stage and came down to the audience to ask our opinion about what they should do. This meant a lot of ad lib and improvised dialogue. As an old actor, this looked like a lot of fun. It reminded me of our final production of Earnest.
I thought that the two actors worked very well together. The pace, energy, cueing, everything really, were all excellent. The little vocal ‘ticks’ and physical movements that you only get with total confidence in your role, were ever present. It was a real pleasure to watch.
And it was great to see another excellent and greatly entertained turn out. It would be quite difficult with a small audience, I think.
As well as the play, Mirinda also met The Board and I was reacquainted with the people I met last time. It was like old home week. Oh, and we also ran into one of KSP’s colleagues. Any hopes of retired anonymity have been dashed, methinks.
And, following on from yesterday’s sewing post, a big shout-out to Nicoline who sent me this photo today.

Letting me know where I can buy a needle threader in Trosa. In Albins och Vera, it seems.
Thank you, Nicoline.
