Sidney went for her three-month check up today. Mirinda had told them about the cracked mirror so they could replace it. When we arrived, we were told that the warranty didn’t cover breakages and, most importantly, it doesn’t cover mirrors.
I am now wondering what this ‘warranty’ does cover. Perhaps leaks, peeling paint…can’t think of anything else…fraying material on the seats…or does it just cover the engine? If so, why don’t they just be upfront about it and say so when you buy a new car? Fuck, I hate insurance.
Anyway, we had to pay for it because the guy at Caffin’s says that Ford won’t reimburse them for the mirror. Personally, UI don’t think they’ve tried and are too risk-averse to try it.
So typical. They are really nice and helpful and friendly BEFORE you buy the car. After you’ve left the car yard, you’re just a nuisance. Maybe I should write a strongly worded letter!
Afterwards, we drove to Winchester. It was a beautiful day. We had a good wander around, along the Itchen – currently swollen with all the rain we’ve had – and behind the college. Had a beer (Speckled Hen) in the Queen’s Inn – a lovely little pub with a very smelly old man at the bar. We drank outside.
We wandered over to the cathedral café for a late lunch – chicken for Mirinda, salmon for me. Then a slow walk down the high street.
Bought a few books and some naughty French pastries. Then home.
Drove to Winchester via the cottage and the bank was awash with bulbs. Snowdrops etc. It’s going to look brilliant. On Folly Hill, I’ve managed to get about six crocuses to bloom.
Our new binoculars from the RSPB arrived today – a Chrissy present from Bob and Claire – and Mirinda has discovered a new, for her, breed of bird that visits us. It’s a siskin and not a green finch.
