I had quite the busy day today, though it started delightfully slow. There was no rush to get out of bed, so I lazed around a bit. Not so lucky was Jason, who had an early flight to Paris. I don’t know what time he left the stuga, but it was well before I was awake.

Once up and about, I pottered around a bit before knocking off another couple of dead soldiers. I then figured it was time to put together Mirinda’s new potting table.

It arrived the other day and has been resting in the glass room. It didn’t take long before it was assembled and standing against the shed, ready for Mirinda to start her potting.

As you can see from the top of the table, there was a bit of rain. This was actually really nice given the amount of sweat I was losing. Not that there was much rain. By the time it was walk around the mountain time, the sky was blue and any hope of wet relief had vanished.

It was one of those rare things today: a walk where we didn’t see a single person. This is always a joy because it means the girls can be off lead for the entire walk. It always worries me when they’re on the lead because, obviously they enjoy the freedom but also it concerns me what would happen if I fell over and they remained trapped tied together.

Okay, it’s not likely, but I am pretty wobbly these days. It does mean I am extra careful though, which, I guess is a good thing.

Safely back at home, I almost immediately jumped to my next job for the day.

For ages I’ve been threatening to build a compost bin. I have been throwing the kitchen peelings out with the other organic waste and it’s been annoying me. In Farnham we had a steady supply of good, fresh compost for the garden every year but not here. Hopefully, that will now be rectified in the years to come.

I used a couple of old pallets that were lying around and some of the wood that Jason sorted out for us a while back. I even reused some old screws. It’s nicely recycled which, I hope, makes up for the buying of the potting table.

By the time the compost bin was finished, I was more sweat than dry. I sat in the glass room for a bit, drinking water and slowly cooling down. I felt like I’d actually accomplished something. It was a good day.

In Malmö, Mirinda discovered that the conference she is attending is fantastic. Lots of excellent speakers, humour and a smattering of despair. Humans are so shit at survival.

BREAKING NEWS

Sven-Goran Eriksson died yesterday! What a shocking bit of news. He’d been suffering with pancreatic cancer. From all reports, he was a lovely man. So sad. In his own words:

“Don’t be sorry, smile. Thank you for everything, coaches, players, the crowds, it’s been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life. And live it. Bye.” From the Amazon Prime documentary Sven.

At the other end of the life cycle, I would like to welcome Reuben Frank into the world. He is the son of Lauren and Will and the littlest Weasel. He was born last night. There were a lot of Weasel best wishes on Whatsapp. I’d like to add mine here. So, congratulations to Mum, Dad and, of course, Oma (not granny) Lorna. Big kisses.
