Oh, frabjous day!

The other day, Jason walked into Trosa with the intention of getting a haircut. He took the opportunity to ask around, in various places, if there were any jobs going. Popping in to Trosa Gelato, he asked the woman behind the counter if they were looking for any ice cream tasters. She said that they weren’t but that Två Små Svin might be looking for someone. He walked down to the restaurant and chatted to the manager.

The manager was very positive and gave Jason his card, suggesting he contact him later in the week. Then, today, Jason received a text message and it looks like he has a job working behind the bar. The text message was a source of great delight.

Another source of delight came directly from Jason when he asked if he could have seconds tonight. I’d made lasagne and he announced that it was one of his favourites. Not that he’s had it before. I thought he was just imitating Mirinda who, with great loyalty, says this about every meal but one that I make. But, no, he was serious.

Usually when I make lasagne, it stretches to lunch the next day as well. Not this time. Is there any greater compliment for a cook than when someone finishes, with obvious pleasure, the leftovers before they become leftovers?

Anyway, all of this joy was much better than my return to SFI this morning. There was only two of us in class, the others being in various countries, visiting relatives, attending weddings or, just away for the holidays.

I had to detail my daily routine. In Swedish. It was slow, painful and largely incomprehensible. I couldn’t even say the Swedish word for blog. It’s blogg, by the way.

Fortunately, the class finished at 10am and I could leave. I went home and made my lasagne. My language skills may be rubbish but at least I can cook.

Oh, and Jason did get a haircut, though it was a bit closer than he’s used to. Mind you, it may have been instrumental in the success of his job seeking foray.
