Short of old ladies

I was walking to the ICA this morning when a May Hare lolloped across the path ahead of me. For those unaware of them, a May Hare is similar to a March Hare except it only appears on Labour Day. Which is why I was shopping at the ICA on a Wednesday. Labour Day, being a public holiday, meant the System was closed.

And, speaking of labour…Mirinda was fully immersed in some this morning. In a number of ways. She was especially keen on improving her micro biome, which is why she isn’t wearing any gloves.

Nicoline had suggested going to her secret horse poo enclosure to collect some and Mirinda jumped at the chance. She returned home with three big bags of the stuff. All we need now are the plants to put it on. We have the single tomato plant that Nicoline gave us on Monday, but I think three bags is a bit much for the one plant.

Over a relaxing cup of hot water, Nicoline told us about an invitation she’d had for a neighbour’s wedding. She didn’t know why she’d been invited. “Maybe they were short of old ladies,” She mused.

She then went on to tell us about the wedding gift list. Apparently, they want a four slot toaster. They already have a two slot toaster, but this obviously doesn’t fulfil their toasting requirements. I suggested that, unless they are looking at six slices, all they really need is a second two slot toaster in order to achieve four slices.

There was also a request for a waffle maker that is capable of making four waffles at a time. I thought such a thing was merely a pipe dream but, no, a simple search brought up this little beauty:

I do want to know what’s behind the four obsession, though. Is it because there are four of them and no-one wants to wait for their waffle? Or does someone enjoy four slices of toast but needs them all at once? It’s a question to which I’ll likely never know the answer.

While the two of them were scrabbling around in the shit, I was busy with my latest Letter from Sweden. Last month, I only just made the recording date. In fact, Charles had to make a special announcement due to my tardiness.

Following this, he sent me the schedule for subsequent recording days. It’s next week, so I decided I wanted my letter recorded by today. This meant a bit of fine-tuning to a draft I’ve been working on since mid-April.

As Stephen King taught me, it’s good to write something then put it aside and return to it later in order to revise. Looking at it again with almost new eyes, sort of thing. I add and subtract every few days; a word here, a phrase there. By the time I record, it should be as good as I can get it. Sometimes, it actually is.

I managed to record it while Mirinda was taking the girls for a walk later in the day. For anyone who wants to listen, here it is:

Letter dated 1 May 2024

All in all, a lovely day that was warm enough to require a late afternoon cold glass of wine while watching the sun slowly set behind the trees. For me, anyway. Mirinda had a gin and tonic.
