As our Easter rolled on, we had two more social engagements today. Three if you count my trip to the ICA which was almost empty and a delightful shopping experience. Even the car park was almost devoid of cars. And the roads…but enough of my supermarket preferences.
Today, amid Mirinda’s Portuguese preparations, we were invited to a special chick event at KSP’s place. Her place is very hard to find so we picked Nicoline up on the way so she could navigate.
KSP and Jonas live on a farm, down a dirt road and a narrow and rutted driveway. They are hidden away from civilisation. Charlie was there for the Easter break, and she pointed out the forest where she would have to carry her bicycle if she wanted to go anywhere as a kid. While it was isolated, I could imagine a wonderful childhood could have been spent there.
Charlie lives in Göteborg and yet, we always manage to see her whenever we have a social function with her mum (KSP) and dad (Jonas). As usual she had lots to talk about.
We were there to meet their newly born chicks. There was also a chicken hat which KSP was wearing and sharing to the great amusement of everyone there.
We weren’t the only visitors. Nicoline’s son Erik and his family joined us and there was also Tomas and his wife and Per who lives in Canada. Per was Tomas’ wife’s brother and involved in the Canadian film and television industry. He is a sound engineer or, rather, was. He’s semi retired now because, he explained, he hates getting up at 4am. These days, he picks and chooses his projects based on the ones that allow him to start work at midday.
He is Swedish but left for Calgary 50 years ago for a year which slowly became almost a lifetime. He was told by his friends that he had to return to Sweden as a visitor every year. Which he has. He was a very interesting fellow.
But, of course, the highlight was the chicks and everyone had a little cuddle before they started shivering with the cold which was the cue to send them back to their mothers.
We had a marvellous time, made yummier with the addition of cinnamon buns made by Jonas who, incidentally, has a doctorate in fish. Black trout to be precise. His baking is pretty exceptional. He baked bread for the dinner party we had late last year and it was delicious. For a trout doctor, he makes an excellent baker.
But, all good things must come to an end, so Nicoline bundled herself into the car, and we headed back to her place before heading home. There, we had a brief period of rest before our next social engagement.
Beth, from next door, came over for a cup of tea and a chat. She’d threatened to not stay very long, but we all wound up talking for a couple of hours.
It has been a very unexpectedly busy Easter this year. And a very enjoyable one.
Tomas took this photo. I think it’s hilarious.
Also, I’m holding a pair of socks that KSP knitted me. She deliberately knitted a pair of non-matching ones. I was delighted.
Love that photo! But they weren’t taken back to their mum – they were hatched in a tray in an incubator machine yet presented Tony’s in a flower basket
