As well as going to the market this morning, I also had to collect some printing from the library. I reached it shortly after opening and there were a lot of people there. It’s always heartening to see people using libraries. As well as the amount of people actually using the market stalls.
Going to the library offered me the opportunity of taking a photo of the footpath tree.

While overjoyed that Lymington had the sense to not cut the tree down, it’s a shame the footpath wasn’t extended a bit onto the road. I guess most drivers would say that there was a perfectly good footpath on the other side of the road and, adding a little bit of footpath would impact their ability to drive in a straight line.
Of course, it’s only right that cars have priority over people. And I’ll not miss Lymington for that reason.
However, the fact that the tree is there and the library and the market are enjoyed by many, are the main reasons I will miss Lymington. The library in Trosa is well-used, of course, but there’s sadly, not a weekly market. Or a butcher.
The butcher in Lymington is down the alley behind the Angel and Blue Pig. I get my meat from the butcher at the market but, today, he only had two lamb shanks and I needed three. Given I was very close, I tried the butcher for the first time. And what a joy it was.
She happily had a rummage around in the big freezer and, very quickly, found the shank I needed. I told her she was a lifesaver.
Then, on the walk home, I found the most useless gate in Lymington. I actually watched a family use the gate and shut it behind them after they’d passed through. It seemed a more symbolic gesture rather than actually being useful.

I do like the eccentricity, though, so there’s that.
I should add that it didn’t rain today. T’was a March Miracle.
