I was going to go shopping today but then, after thinking about it while lying in bed covered in a duvet and two hairy cockerpoos, I decided not to. The temperature was around -8° outside, and I figured I could scrounge up enough food to eat from the fridge. I took a couple of bits of chicken out of the freezer and all was good.
After lunch I made a chicken casserole which will feed me today and tomorrow. So all is good.
I had a lovely long Skype with Mirinda who is currently in Bath visiting Sophie and Tom. She sent me a link to a company that sells and delivers Christmas trees. While I said I had one right outside my study, which I was looking at, Mirinda claimed that wasn’t enough. We need one in the house. So I ordered one.
Of course, it won’t be as tall as the one we normally have at Farnham. This is because the ceiling is a lot lower here in the red house. In fact, I can reach up and touch it easily. In most of the house, anyway. In the newer parts, it’s a bit higher.
Anyway, the tree will arrive on Wednesday or Thursday this week. Denise can help dress it next week. I might just make some shortbread to help convince her.
I did leave the house though. After lunch I took the girls around the woods.
I was speaking to Thomas (next door) yesterday and he said the ski slope was now open on the weekends so I needed to see the changes. Two big things were the smooth slope and the flouro fence.
The snow cannons were still blowing away at the top. I guess the weekend skiers must have displaced a lot of the natural stuff and they’re just topping it up a bit.
The other thing was the small building I said they were removing last week. This was a lie. The fact is, they were just moving it out of the danger area. On closer examination now that it’s right up against the walking path, it appears to be some sort of generator. At any rate, it is owned by Vattenfall who is the local electricity supplier.
I have no idea what it’s for though, because there are no wires coming out of it.
Whatever it’s for, the walk was glorious and the girls enjoyed it so much that they collapsed the minute we returned home. That’s always the sign of a good walk.
And the casserole was delicious.
