Just a little update on the number of guest free days we’ve had in the house this year. Since we moved in on August 6, we’ve had 31 guest-free days and 68 with guests. That’s amazing. It’s more than twice as many days with guests. Not that I’m complaining. I’m loving it. Mind you, Chez Gaz is really starting to feel like a restaurant. Okay, a small one but a restaurant all the same. I might be turning into Rachel Koo.
But, for today, we were free of guests, so we slept in and had a very leisurely day. Well, we did until Mirinda got it into her head that I needed a pair of sandals in order to go to the UK tomorrow.
I had figured out an effective form of bandage shoe that I could wrap around my right foot in order to protect my soles while not pressing on the open wound that is my extra toe. This was deemed not good enough so Mirinda hunted all over Sweden (Åhléns at least) until she found a pair that could work. She then left for Stockholm because it was the only store with stock.
It was like a whirlwind had suddenly turned up and dealt the inactivity of the morning a decisive blow. She caught the 15:36 into town while I scanned documents, cooked her a casserole for the days I’m away, and generally moped around the house. With cold feet.
Obviously, I packed. That took about seven minutes. I then started my reading hour when a text came in saying the sandals I’d chosen were not in stock (though the website said they were) so what about the Sneaky Steves? Well, how could I refuse? Particularly when they were in a very pleasant green. I said go for it.
Eventually, Mirinda returned with the new shoes. They were a size bigger than I normally wear in order to allow for the extra toe.
Apart from the extra length, they were fine. I put my shoe stretchers in for overnight.
And that, basically, was my day.
