Today we said farewell to our first Red House guest. Anna was setting off on her next adventure, catching a train into Stockholm for a few days before hitting Oslo. From there she’s heading for a small island off the coast of Norway where she can do some serious hiking. The way she described her plans made it sound like her visit with us was a rest before she indulges in some serious walking. She has promised photos.
Her final day started by having fika with us and Nicoline before heading into Trosa and a walk to the end of the world.
This has me mystified. When it was first called ‘worlds end’ the land just across the water could clearly be seen. You can see it in the photo above. How is that not part of the world? I’m not sure about smörbyttan. It translates as ‘butter change’ and relates to a stage of the butter making process. Maybe Trosa was known for its butter at some stage. To be fair, the brynt smör ice cream at the harbour is pretty amazing.
And, as luck would decree, they were serving it today, so Anna could try some before leaving. Like us, she was most enthusiastic. She was also most enthusiastic about having her final Trosa lunch at Tre Små Rum.
We had a bit of a break back at home during which Anna packed, and we rested before heading off for the station. I said farewell at the house as Mirinda was also taking Nicoline and her grandson to catch the same train into Stockholm, which meant Max was full. I waved as they left the drive, the metaphoric tear in my eye.
As Mirinda said upon her return, it’s now just us. Well, until Monday when Amanda arrives.
