The hollyhocks outside the front door are looking marvellous this year. They are so much better being where they are now rather than lining the drive, where they used to be. Not that they were transplanted. They were butt seeded.
There’s also some butt seed hollyhocks just off the terrace out the back but they have been a bit slower in blooming.
The only thing wrong with the ones by the front door, is how tall they grow and how they are inclined to incline. It prompted me to tie them back today as they were making it impossible to collect the bins from the side of the house.
It was part of a day spent with just the girls for company as Mirinda was in town at an AGM, followed by too much booze with Sarah and Ian. The rest of my day was spent organising various bits and pieces in preparation for our imminent departure.
24 Days to go
In other floral news…for a lot of the day I was looking out of my office window, admiring the St John’s Wort and lavender, enjoying the company of bees and other, assorted insects as they went about they busy schedules.
Oh, and I listened to the second day of the second Ashes test from Lord’s.
