Just like Debbie from Waitrose

Tonight we were going to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary at Bomans. It would be our first time having the a la carte menu given the other times we’ve eaten there have been for lunch. But it was not to be. As we entered, I thought it felt quite full and, I was right. One of the friendly waiters who remembered us from last time apologised. We could have a table but only for an hour. We decided to try elsewhere.

It marked the first time being turned away from Bomans. And it wasn’t the only first for today. It also marked my first trip to the Trosa ICA.

It took me 40 minutes through forest and along very wide footpaths, passing schools and a cemetery, then crossing a lovely, wide footbridge.

Mind you, I should have worn my light fleece. I left the house in a t-shirt but, whenever the sun disappeared behind clouds or trees, and the wind whipped up, the 3° really hit home. An old lady I passed said I looked freezing. I should say that I wasn’t.

However, apart from my own stupidity, the walk was lovely And, I have to say, the ICA at Trosa is the best supermarket I’ve ever shopped in.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I do not say that lightly. Anyone who knows me will testify to the fact that I am a Waitrose devotee from way back, however, the ICA at Trosa is streets ahead. Not only is it just the right size but the staff are wonderfully friendly. And, alongside the fish and deli counter there were the best pork chops I’ve seen since we lived at Vendelsö. Fat still attached and decidedly big. I swiftly bought two, just to make sure they weren’t an illusion.

And the lady at the fish, meat and deli counter was delightfully friendly. She reminded me of Debbie from Waitrose, given her cheery demeanour and happy smile.

All in all, I spent a very pleasant while shopping at the Trosa ICA and look forward to our long association.

Then, just as I was returning home, I was met on the road by Mirinda and the girls who were taking their first long walk together. They were headed for the forest at the end of the road. They had a splendid time as well.

Also splendid was our anniversary dinner, which we had at Fina Fisken, a restaurant recommended to us by Klas and just around the corner from Bomans. As the name implies, it serves seafood. Very nice seafood.

We toasted the longevity of our marriage and the acquisition of a new home. And had a thoroughly delicious meal.

Though the card machine tried to spoil everything. For some reason it wouldn’t work in the new extension. Our waitress tried two and neither wanted to take our money. Eventually, a tech savvy waiter suggested turning them off then on again. This, of course, worked a charm and we happily paid. As a former IT professional I was once again reminded that this is generally the correct method of fixing an IT problem.

That aside…

Here’s to our first anniversary in Trosa.
