As the Coop up at Träkvista is due for demolition in order to allow the road to go through it, the vacant block opposite now has a robotic shop to cater for those people who suddenly run out of milk in the middle of the night. We probably won’t be able to use it because we don’t have a Swedish bank account.

It’s not quite open yet, but the stock has started to arrive, so it won’t be long. Personally, I doubt I’d use it (apart from the bank thing). I much prefer human contact over convenience, particularly when the convenience is the difference between a walk and a short bus ride.

I remember reading this article in the Guardian two years ago about these digital supermarkets. While it’s nice to know that isolated areas of Sweden will be able to use a local shop, it’s a shame they have to do it digitally. Still, I guess it’s better than a long drive in a polluting car.

As for the original staffed supermarket, it’s almost hidden behind huge mounds of road material, where once the car park existed.

I don’t understand why they want to rebuild the road through there. Unless it’s just part of the general building trend going on in Sweden at the moment. It seems like you can’t go anywhere without there being some sort of building works in the way.

Mirinda reckons it’s a way of stimulating the economy. Maybe she’s right, though it also stimulates my irritability a bit.
