Worst shopping time

Most of today was spent inside. Mirinda had a few Visual Effects sessions she wanted to attend (online) and I had washing to do. Naturally, Mirinda took the girls on a lovely long walk during which she saw an owl, but my only, real trip outside, was another disappointing trip to the letter box – still no personnummer.

Although it was a Wednesday, I didn’t need to go shopping, as we went yesterday. And I’m pleased to announce that the café seems to be speeding ahead towards completion.

I can’t remember if it had a name before but I know that the central structure was wood effect rather than the new varying degrees of green. Maybe it just needed a freshening up.

The last time we were here, there was a bit of work done on the tiles beneath about a third of the café, which I assumed had something to do with a burst water main. As well as the one way system instituted for the safety and comfort of shoppers, it was also horrendously noisy with electric tools screeching across the tiles.

The only sound today was of a drill screwing in screws. And the voices of thousands of shoppers. This was because it was the absolute worst time to go shopping.

Lunchtime at ICA is when the normally pleasant Swedes become rude, cantankerous and downright belligerent. I generally enjoy shopping, but this experience was anything but enjoyable.

For instance, a chap behind me at the checkout (there were only two checkouts operating because work is still going on inside the supermarket) was standing way too close. At one point I was going to tell him I was married, so there was no need to get so close.

Anyway, one item I bought didn’t have a barcode and the woman at the checkout had to call someone to sort it out. The chap behind me was not best pleased. He edged even closer so that, when it came time to pay, I had to back into him in order to protect my PIN. I may have muttered something unpleasant under my breath.

I headed for the Systembaloget, where things were much kinder.

But, as I said, that was all yesterday. Today, things were a lot slower, calmer and, generally, more pleasant.
