A week in 30 seconds

Tonight I went to the Farnham Maltings to see a show called Death’s Cabaret (though I do keep calling it Death’s Cabinet for some obscure reason) with Dawn.

I’m not exactly sure why it was called a cabaret. Actually, that’s not entirely true. The style of music was sort of cabaret-ish…I guess. The first part, maybe.

The second part was superb, though not really what I’d call cabaret. And it didn’t really need the first bit which was a collection of songs and music. Not that the first part wasn’t great…it was. It was more like a concert though, with different, unlinked pieces.

Once we’d had a break and resettled into our seats, the real story began. The story of a concert cellist and his attempt to ‘feel’ his music again. One guy (Matthew Sharp, who has a wonderful voice) told the story while a fantastic string quartet (The Sacconi Quartet) played accompaniment. Matthew also sang and played his own cello.

The story turned into a ‘deal with the devil’ type scenario and didn’t end particularly well for anyone! In all, it was a very entertaining piece and we both enjoyed it thoroughly though we thought it needed a dancer to play…well, the dancer. I think this would have given it another level.

Still, an interesting night’s entertaining. I should mention that Matthew sang an absolutely beautiful version of September Song in the first part. He was mesmerising.

During the path laying of the week just passed, I managed to take a series of photographs from the upstairs window. Here’s the result:

I managed to get Day-z to overcome her fears and walk the entire length. Carmen doesn’t know what all the fuss is about.

I also had a test run of my birthday present. It’s a 250mm zoom lens. Of course, I had to use the tripod and the autofocus because of my hand but I think I’m really going to enjoy using it.
