Varying shades of cold

We haven’t seen many people walking on the local lakes this trip. There’s been a couple of isolated incidents when we were surprised that the ice was thick enough but, otherwise, people seem to be avoiding the watery drop. Then, today, after lunch at the Notholmen café, we walked to the end of the island and saw, what looked like, two people walking out, onto the water.

And yet, next to the island, the thawed water is clearly flowing.

You can’t see them in the above photo (they’re too far away) but they are there. What the photo does show is how there’s no ice next to the island. Those people are either Jesus or very foolhardy.

We were at the café for a lovely, late lunch. We went late to avoid the crowds, but then were part of a late crowd. It was probably because the sky was cloudless. We managed to get a table though, and that’s all that matters. And lunch. That matters too.

Afterwards, walking back to Max, I noticed the different shades on the surface of the water. It’s hard to see from the photograph, but there were distinctly different colours depending on the state of the ice.

It was quite chilly. Chilly enough for me to wear my big fleece. It’s supposed to snow tomorrow. Nice.
