Our Internet died yesterday. I turned the modem off Saturday night and, when I turned it back on Sunday morning, nothing would connect. Of course, I know from bitter experience that there’s no one to call on a Sunday so I had to wait for today to ring. Subsequently, I spent almost an hour on the phone with a very helpful chap.
Applying Occams Razor, we managed to try every bit of kit in order to eliminate the obvious. Not the pod, not the cable, etc, etc until it was obviously a problem with the modem itself. The very helpful chap then put a call out for an engineer to come and help us.
Unfortunately, Mirinda had a board meeting to attend. I tried connecting her up using our phones as mobile hotspots but that wasn’t successful. She then tried to phone in over the Zoom call.
Of course, that should be easy. I sat and listened as she went through the steps. Enter the meeting ID followed by the hash key. Enter the participant number followed by the hash key. Enter the meeting passcode followed by the hash key, the robotic AI intoned monotonously. After Mirinda keyed in the passcode the AI informed her that she hadn’t entered anything. Every time. Even though she had. And these are the things we want to run our lives for us? Frightening. A real life case of “Computer says no.“
I have to say that Mirinda took it all quite well. She didn’t get angry or irritated, she just accepted the fact that the Greek, Roman and Nordic gods didn’t really want her to attend the meeting. On the other hand, the Nordic gods were quite keen for me to head for the kitchen.
Tonight, we had Anja come round for dinner and, because tomorrow is Kanelbullens Dag, I decided I should make some. Any excuse for an exception.

I was very happy with them. I only wish I’d had some pearl sugar to sprinkle on top. Must remember for next time.
I’d decided to make roasted sea bass on mediterranean vegetables, firstly because it’s easy and secondly because Anja said she eats ‘literally’ anything. I don’t think she literally meant literally otherwise I’m not sure the dogs would have survived her looking after them.
She arrived dead on time and we sat and ate and chatted for a very pleasant few hours. In that time we learned a lot about Germany and how much of an extrovert I am. It was a very entertaining evening. And Anja liked my cinnamon buns so much, she happily accepted an extra one to have later.

Because it was dark, we had a bit of an early start with hygge this year, which is why the photo above isn’t the best.
Oh, and the engineer didn’t turn up. I guess I’ll be ringing again tomorrow.
