I didn’t leave the house today. Mostly I spent my day struggling with technology. It was, on the whole, all a bit irritating. From monitors to printers, software to hardware, things just kept popping up and annoying me.
At least the kitchen didn’t revolt. I made pork with fennel for dinner which was delicious, and a tasty scratch salad for lunch, using the leftover sausages from yesterday which were just as yum cold. They were from Surrey Hills Butcher and, as usual, Top Class!
We had dinner late tonight because Mirinda returned to guitar class, the first time since May. She was a bit rusty, she said. There was also a bit of catching up to do with David.
She also caught up with Fi, who made it home safely in the Donkey Butt Tig, though the way I’d set up Mirinda’s camera and monitor didn’t work properly. I couldn’t work out the problem on the fly so Mirinda had to use her Mac rather than the big screen. I think I know what the problem is and will fix it tomorrow, hopefully.
Mind you, at the same time I was struggling with my printer. I had to print something off for tomorrow and thought I’d better get onto it early, given how temperamental my printer can be. I was right to do so.
While I used to be the God of Printers, my followers seem to have deserted me in recent years. Emulating a typical vengeful God, I almost chucked it out of my office window. Fortunately, I didn’t because, after trying everything, it eventually worked. Unexpectedly as it turned out, given a document was queued to it with ‘error’ written all over it and no way to delete it. As I said, frustrating.
Then, late on, I decided to begin the second draft of my novel. Of course, I have changed laptop since Sweden and the licenced copy of the software I used is on the old one. The old one takes an age to boot up. Still, I managed to wake it up and get into the software only to find that the licence key isn’t anywhere obvious.
I wrote off to the people I bought it from only to discover that they are a third party dealer and I’d have to write to the owners of the software. Helpfully, they provided an email address in the US. I wrote to them but don’t expect an answer too soon. I might have to convert my book to something simple, like Word.
Anyway, my day just chuntered on from one obstacle to another until it was time to go to bed. Which I happily did. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little less technology based and a lot more cheerful.
