Louise Fletcher died yesterday. Her roles as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and Kai Winn Adami in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, are unforgettable, for her ability to create calm menace. Obviously, her career was much bigger than just two roles but those were extremely memorable. She was 88 and living in France.
While Hollywood mourned, here, in Farnham, we had the annual Food Festival, which saw Castle Street and the Borough closed to traffic and packed with people enjoying the sun and international offerings on display. It coincided with the monthly market which was, as usual, in the Central Car Park. There were even stalls around the Bush Hotel.

We came armed with my shopping trolley, avoiding previous years of arm stretching bag carrying. A number of people commented on our preparedness as we stacked it higher with various delicious goodies.
While tempted with the German sausages, the trolley held me in check given I didn’t have any hands left to eat a Bratwurst. Mirinda volunteered to take the trolley for me but I demurred, saying she had to look after the girls. This was my way of being good.
There were far too many carbs consumed in Oz and we are both determined to revert to our previous healthy regime. I’ve already started feeling better and I’ve only been back a few days. It’s not that long a road to march down.
There were lots of dogs at the festival, though not all of them wandering between feet and legs, depending on the size. Our two were constantly on guard against being trodden on. A couple spotted in Castle Street had the right idea, using a stroller to safely transport their dogs around the stalls.

All in all, we came away with lots of lovely treats, all low carb, all delicious. Obviously there was a bottle of gin for Mirinda and one of dark rum for me but the one thing we were really looking forward to was the special pork scratchings which we always buy when the stall is around. They always feature many delicious flavours and very few carbs.
For dinner, as a special welcome home treat, I made moussaka. Obviously, that was delicious too.
