Adele came for a visit today. Like Sharon last week, the day was planned to be spent with Mirinda. Lunch and a walk, this time in Fagan Park. The walk, not the lunch. Fi also had a lunch planned with a friend. Archie and I had leftover Chinese together. Well, I had leftover Chinese and Archie licked the plastic takeaway box clean afterwards.
It was lovely seeing Adele for the ten minutes she was here before they set off. It was even lovelier seeing her for the hour after they returned and we sat around having a cup of tea and some Kingston biscuits.
Obviously, while they were gallivanting around the countryside, I was busy scanning and organising a couple of things. Firstly, there was a skip.
The skip guy is a man of few words. When I asked for a rough time of arrival of the skip, his reply was ‘tomorrow’. That was it. Maybe he once worked for DPD. They used to insist that people remain in their houses for the entire 24 hour period for when a parcel was due. They have improved these days but, clearly, this chap is keeping the flag of inconvenience flying. I’m hoping he doesn’t turn up at 6am.
The other thing was a furniture pick-up by the Salvos. They have an online form where you detail what and where and who and then you wait for them to get back to you. Of course, being a Sunday, they were all in church so, I guess, they’ll get back to me on Monday.
Then, of course, there was the scanning.
And today was quite exciting because I found a whole load of family history photographs.
Her name was Ann Begg (1796-1861), and she was Mirinda’s 3rd grandmother on her father’s side. There were also a few photos of areas in NSW dating from 1911 which were interesting, as well as names I’d never heard of from her tree. I think I might have to return to the ancestry stuff.
Anyway, that kept me pretty busy.
Speaking of keeping busy, we are gradually getting rid of things from the house. Vinnie’s is doing a roaring trade with small objects and, today, Fi’s friend was given a piano accordion. But, before the accordion was packed away, there was time for an impromptu concert with Fi on the squeeze box and me on the didgeridoo.
Which was a lot of fun, if not very tuneful. The friend was very pleased with the instruments and sent Fi a short video of her playing the accordion with a bit more accomplishment. As Fi said, “She even used the little black buttons!“
Somewhat surprisingly, today I learned that, in an emergency, nurses will evacuate patients on a sheet, blanket or even a towel, dragged along the floor. I guess that’s why the floors in hospitals always have to be waxed and polished and slippery.
I discovered this when Fi and I transported a big concrete wombat from the back verandah to Adele’s car. It was too heavy for anyone of us to carry so Fi suggested using a towel to drag it like, she said, nurses do in an emergency evacuation situation. And, dear reader, it worked a treat. Though, when we reached the boot of Adele’s car, we had to evacuate Archie before loading the wombat. he didn’t need a towel.
And, because I haven’t reported on one for a while…
Prick of the Week
Just in case people don’t believe that money is more important than anything else, read about this dickhead.
Enjoying your blog!!
Go wombat! He is now safely installed in Wollongong. I don’t know if they used the emergency sheet approach.
At least dickhead was planting lots of trees.
