Tuesday at the house

Something I’m definitely going to miss about the house at Dural is sitting on the verandah, drinking a morning coffee and listening to the birds. And not just the listening. This morning there were rosellas and galahs as well as currawongs and kookaburras, flying about, rustling in the gum trees.

Of course, it helped that the weather was lovely. Blue sky with scudding clouds and a pleasant temperature. It all helped. Though, it quickly changed late in the day with thunder and torrential rain, but we were busy working in the study by then.

I spent the day scanning photographs and putting big items up for sale on Gumtree. The house needs to be cleared before it goes on sale, and it’s a bit of a laborious job.

Like this side table.

But before settling down to work, Fi had a hairdressing appointment and Mirinda and I took a tour of the property.

Mirinda pointed out various issues that need to be sorted. The size of the overall job is massive. I’m glad I’m here to help.

Regardless of the mammoth task before us, the house looked lovely as we walked around it.

After working away for most of the day (Mirinda and Fi worked on bills and accounts) we settled back, waiting for Gail and Geoff to visit.

Actually, I did flake in the afternoon for a bit. I was having problems keeping my eyes open and had a granny nap for two hours which did the trick and woke me up for the rest of the day.

Gail and Geoff live next door. I should explain that ‘next door’ is actually far enough to drive over. They have also been neighbours for as long as the house has been here. In fact, Geoff watched the house being built and copied a couple of the doors.

We had a very enjoyable night with lots of laughs and the general swapping of family histories. I rather liked how they originally got together.

46 years ago, they divorced their respective spouses who then remarried each other. They lived together for a few years then decided they should get married as well. I’ve never heard of that before.

It was a great night full of alcohol, laughter, quiche and cheese.

I believe their ex spouses were actually having an affair – but eventually they split up after they got married while Gail and Geoff ‘s marriage continues strongly
