I am having technical problems. Mirinda is using a work Macbook Air; a new one. It only has two USB-C outlets. Mirinda uses an external monitor and an external webcam. That leaves no outlet for the power supply.
Why has Apple limited the outlets?
Okay, I understand the planned obsolescence of changing the outlet types every time a new model is released. It’s because they want people to buy more stuff rather than using things they’ve already bought. That’s capitalism, red in tooth and claw.
There’s not a lot I can do about the big corporations that ruin…I mean run, this planet, so I bought a Belkin 6 in one USB-C extension thing. It works on a Macbook Air, or so it claims. Bollocks it does.
The normal USB slots are fine; that’s the camera and an external drive sorted. But the HDMI link to the external monitor, which is basically why I bought it, doesn’t work. By contrast, a cable I have which converts HDMI to USB-C works fine if I plug it directly into the Macbook.
I thought I’d chat to the Belkin bot to find out how to make the HDMI slot work. Turns out it wasn’t a bot, which is good. Also turns out the human wasn’t very helpful. It was suggested that I try the Belkin in another device. If I had another device that had USB-C connections, I would.
So, all in all, I bought a Belkin 6 in 1 USB-C extension thing for nothing.
I hate technology sometimes. This being one of those times.
