For our final day in Blockley, we mostly stayed in Blockley. It seemed the right thing to do. After all was said and done, it was ridiculously hot and we’d seen everything we could see without mask and fuss. So, Mirinda went for a long walk and I stayed in the cottage researching.
Of course we went up to the cafe for our morning coffee. We sat inside, in the air conditioned delight, absorbing as much cold as we could before starting the day.
Mirinda’s walk took two hours as she circled the village at great distance and height, admiring views and scattering cattle. She thoroughly enjoyed it though it was, as I said, ridiculously hot.
Late in the afternoon we went up to the cafe for one last Cotswold meal.
The ground floor of the cafe was full so we went upstairs to the mezzanine.
This area was only created during Lockdown and more than doubled the capacity. It’s going to come in very handy for the restaurant which re-opened tonight.
And our meals were superb. The chef at the cafe really is amazing. I had ox cheeks with cabbage and broccoli. There were profuse apologies for the lack of carrots but I didn’t miss them. Of course there was a small island of mash potatoes, something I haven’t had in a very long while.
Back at the cottage we decided to sit out the rest of the heat of the day in Max, driving around the countryside with the aircon. Naughty, I know, but, in the scheme of things, not that bad.
We meandered around, pretty much directionless, until we hit the oncoming storm. Giant water droplets hit the windscreen generously cleaning it to the extent where we could see through it again. We decided a U-turn and return to the cottage was in order. We managed to keep ahead of the weather for most of the drive back though there were times when we had to turn left or right and the rain would catch us.
The best thing about the rain was how the temperature managed to drop at the same time. By the time we pulled up outside the cottage the temperature was a reasonable 19°.
The rest of the evening and night was spent watching a Chinese film called Double World. I don’t know why it was called Double World because it didn’t seem to match the actual film. Still, it was very entertaining.
Also entertaining was this meme I spotted today.
It did make me laugh.
