Only one leg to stand on

Yet another day spent with a foot of elephantine proportions. While Weasels cavort in Cassel amid Christmas markets, breweries and mechanical turkeys, I have sat at the dining table with my foot raised. When I occasionally rise and stagger around I sound like a disfigured creature from Edgar Allan Poe. I expect to hear ravens in the background.

Add to the above the fact that Mirinda sounds like she’s a victim of the Spanish Flu and the designation of Sick House fits well.

It’s not a happy time. Bob came round and sat in Emma’s recliner, reading and snoozing and having cups of tea. Mirinda reclined on the lounge coughing, snorting and generally sounding very sick. I researched soldiers who didn’t die in the war given I’d finished the memorials.

There was no cooking because there’s no food in the house. Not that anyone seems hungry. Bob kindly brought round some milk – there’s been none for three days – which made coffee and tea palatable.

Finally, Bob figured he’d sat long enough and generously took the girls up to the park for a walk beside the Avenue of Trees. Given it’s December, the Avenue is a river of mud. Fortunately I can imagine how it is.

Bob walked back to the Bush soon after his return, ordering Mirinda to get well and me to look after her. This has been a particularly shit fortnight for him. Poor Bob. He’ll be glad to return to the bush fires.

I had managed to place an order with Sainsbury’s which was delivered at 5pm. By 6pm I’d made Mirinda some soup, fed the dogs (we’d run out of dog food too) and was nibbling on a chicken breast while we watched Star Trek: Voyager.

(Interestingly, Roxann Dawson, the actor who played B’Elanna Torres, was brought up an Atheist then reverted to Catholicism later in life. As an Atheist I find this quite peculiar. Apparently it was at the time of her second marriage so, maybe he was a Catholic and she had to. Very odd.)

Earlier in the day, I finished the first series of Mythomaniac, a French drama on Netflix. I should say an amazing French drama on Netflix. It ends at the point where series two will start but I’ll have to wait (at least) a year for this.

I’ve recently watched a lot of French shows and they have all been really good. Perhaps this immersive technique of learning the language will help when we move.

No photos because I didn’t take any. To make up for it, here’s a photo of Emma on my leg.

This was yesterday. Freya is on my shoulders.
