Off to work this morning even though I’d had an email during the week from Nick at Work telling me there was a mouse plague in the basement and if I didn’t want to go in, he’d understand. I told him that, being Australian, I have no fear of anything (except drop bears, of course) and would be in. He was pleased.
I should state right here, right now that not only didn’t I see any mice, I didn’t even see (or smell) evidence of their existence. The men from Rentakill are clearly doing their jobs right. Mind you, Nick assured me that there were times that his desk was awash with mice urine during the week. It was so bad he moved all our books.
Given that Nick was there, I, of course, had a load of amendments to make to the previous two weeks worth of work. We also had a discussion about the stupidity of having my job now done in three separate stages rather than just the one. He agreed but is a bit of a do-gooder and doesn’t like rocking the boat.
I told him it makes little difference to me that the museum doesn’t want to take advantage of my skills and just went to work doing what I do.
Today there was a bit of unravelling of the Rennie dynasty of the early 19th century (not anything even close to writing a bio entry) and, of course, a visit to the new V&A entrance. And can I just say how brilliant it is? Here’s a badly shot video…
The ticket desk that I mention in the video is actually a big bank of touch screens where you can book onto and pay for any of the current exhibitions. It’s all very hi-tech and cool.
And here’s a photo looking across the courtyard from the other side.

After work I headed over to the flat. The Tube on the Jubilee line was horrendous. Packed solid and ridiculously hot and stuffy. I almost flowed out at Canary Wharf. The heat on the platform was a relief.
I was on my way to the flat because I’m off to Lords tomorrow to see the third day of the England v South Africa first test. I’m meeting Nicktor at Waterloo and then we’re off for a bit of genteel cricket watching.
Hoorah, as he’d no doubt remark.
Wow the V&A looks great but all those stairs how did you manage. You didn’t say why you were infested with mouse so glad I didn’t go to work with you even though you didn’t see any, where had they come from I expect the workman must have disturb there nest.I bet you and Nicktor had a great time at the cricket. love mum xxxx
I think that courtyard would be improved by lots of flower pots. Looks a bit stark
