When your youth is dying

Leon Russell died today. I didn’t know. Mirinda told me.

I remember Leon Russell playing piano during the Joe Cocker Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour of the US in 1970. He was also the musical director for the tour. Obviously I was in love with the album and the fact that he wore a black top hat. He was SOOOO cool.

After Mad Dogs, I bought Carney, a wonderful solo album by him. I played some of it tonight. It brings back a lot of my youth.

He had a heart attack in July and then passed away in his sleep. He was 74 and a great showman.

While that put a bit of a dampener on the day, it wasn’t enough to quell our delight at picking up the puppies first thing. And it would seem that they both missed us as well. They went a bit mental.

According to Sue they were both very well behaved, made lots of friends and went for regular swims. Apparently Emma will go swimming if you throw a stick far enough into the water. Freya paddles.

I spent a lot of the day putting some of our photos on Flickr while Mirinda worked on her DBA. Oh, and there was an awful lot of washing to get through.

In the afternoon, Mirinda took the girls to Winkworth Arboretum to see the Autumn colours but, unfortunately, the place was packed with people doing the same thing so it wasn’t much fun. I decided to leave any cross country hikes for next weekend. While in the car, Freya had a sudden return of the carsickness which plagued her youth. Poor baby.

"I'm watching you. You're going nowhere!"

“I’m watching you. You’re going nowhere!”

I made a start on the leaves on the terrace but stopped when my knee started carrying on. Stupid knee. I’m taking it to the gym tomorrow. That’ll teach it.
