Wet, wet Denmark

In Denmark today, Denise and Tracey made friends with a couple of very small locals with oversized noses, managed to avoid arrest by asking to take a photo first, endured torrential rain while in a bus and took a photo that appeared to be the inside of a coat pocket.

They also saw a certain little mermaid who didn’t seem to mind the rain at all.

As for me, I was at work busy finding out about the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company and a few of their ships.

I also almost managed to get the autograph of John Scott Russell…except it wasn’t his. I was researching a painting which he donated to the museum but his file seems to have disappeared. I found a note that I thought was from him to the museum. Except the date on the note was about 50 years after he died.

Still, it wasn’t all disappointment. I managed to join up the dots between mail services, ferries and companies quite nicely.

Then, just before I headed home, Howard announced that our special tour of HMS Belfast would be next Friday rather than the week after. So, rather unexpectedly we hurriedly made meet-up plans.

At home we headed off for Tylney Hall for my birthday dinner.

We’ve visited the gardens before but not the restaurant. I guess we were waiting for a significant celebration.

And it was lovely. From the view outside to the ceiling of the Great Hall, it was all very stately but strangely welcoming.

We sat beneath the above and forced mum to try a strawberry Daiquiri which she managed to sip a few times before making me finish it.

Dinner was lovely (though I’m not convinced about combining scallops and pork belly) and perfectly finished off with an espresso martini (not as good as the one I had at Bel & the Dragon).
