In the Spring garden

Today was mostly spent in the garden. It was another dry day with just a few clouds giving shelter from the sun so, basically, ideal for a bit of shovel and forking. And wirework.

My first job was to plant up six bedding plants we bought on the weekend. This was not a particularly difficult or arduous job and I soon had them scattered as randomly as is possible for six plants (three of each type – Scabious ‘Pink Mist’ and Iberis sempervirens ‘Appen-Etz’).

We’re gradually filling up the Crazy Bed so that it’s all blooming and bright in Summer. The Chutney Bed has to wait for some stakes to be inserted before we can do the same on that side.

For most of the rest of my day, I put wire up on the fence in preparation for two more climbers which I’ll plant tomorrow (weather permitting). This wasn’t made particularly easy given one of the climbers is on the other side of the temporary fence meaning I had to cross back and forth each time I threaded the wire through. I DID remember to run the wire BEHIND the wire of the fence.

I finished off my garden day by cutting back and, basically, destroying one of the budleas. It’s old, dying and in the way so it has to go. However, growing around its base is a fern and a bunch of bluebells which need to be transplanted first. The fern didn’t want to move but I eventually convinced it. I left the bluebells for tomorrow, along with the stump removal.

I then spent far too long working on Mirinda’s British Citizenship application.

Rather than bore you with the tedium of filling out a 30 page government form, here’s a photo of Mirinda’s second alpine garden, this time in an old terracotta pot we had up the back, half buried in the stick pile.

And another of the purple tulips in the raised beds along the end of the terrace on the Crazies’ side.

And yet another, this time of the lawn progress. It’s looking very lush and, as Mirinda pointed out, already growing…thankfully. She was wondering when I can mow it. Very soon if the present growth rate is any indication.

And, of course, no blog entry is really complete without a photograph of my loyal helper.

Mind you, she was a bit naughty today. She managed to get hold of a tiny pixie bucket from the Pixie Alpine Garden. It now has a pixie size bullet hole in it from Emma’s remaining canine. Pest!

And, just to correct something I mentioned on Saturday. I think the old lady who didn’t like the rock music was unaware that there was going to be a rock band. I think she probably goes to the Town Mayor’s Charity Concert every year to show her support and doesn’t necessarily know what or who is performing. We didn’t know because we were going to see the Guitar Orchestra.
