Waving back

Steven Wright is an American comedian who was born the same year as me. I’d never heard of him but today, while looking for a suitable title to go along with the ridiculous heat presently melting me in Queensland, I discovered him. For that reason alone (I love the randomness most of all) I’ve included a few of his quotes.

After a little more searching, I realised that I had heard him. He was Paul Buchmann’s film assistant in Mad About You as well as the voice of the radio DJ in Reservoir Dogs…which only goes to show.

If you saw a heat wave, would you wave back?

So, as I said earlier, today was stupidly hot and humid. So much liquid seeped out of my pores, I’m surprised I’m still here. Walking down for my usual latte, I sloshed and squelched in my runners and wrung out my t-shirt every ten feet.

If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?

Things didn’t improve later in the day when it rained. If anything, it made things worse. But, enough weather moaning. It’s bad enough living through it without having to read about it as well.

If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

Mum has had a horrendous cough since I’ve been here. Today, after a lot of badgering from all of us, Mum rang the doctor to make an appointment. We went in just before lunch.

Mark, who has been the family GP for about 78 years, told her she’s bordering on bronchitis and prescribed her some anti-biotics. She’s also been experiencing strange woozy moments so he gave her something for that as well. Naturally, I met the ‘girls’ on reception before we left.

I remember when the candle shop burned down. Everyone stood around singing ‘Happy Birthday.’

After a successful visit to the RACQ we had lunch at the Shingle Inn. Sometimes, when they’re feeling like being extravagant, Mum and Lorna will have lunch there. It’s been there since 1936 though not as the Shingle Inn, claims Mum…though she wasn’t here in 1936 so I’m not sure how she knows.

She had a rather pale, pie-like quiche Lorraine, which she said was delicious while I had an amazing chicken and avocado crepe stack. This was a small layered wedge of crepe, chicken, avocado, crepe, chicken, avocado (about five times) with a light cheesy sauce poured over the top. Highly recommended…unless you dislike avocado in which case you really should avoid it.

We also had iced lattes but Mum complained that hers was too strong and made me drink it for her.

I have two pairs of reading glasses. One pair is for reading fiction, the other for non-fiction. I’ve read the Bible twice wearing each pair, and it’s the same.

Back at the house (and after a bit of a granny nap…for both of us) I spent a fruitless inordinate amount of time trying to fix the photo uploading capabilities of this blog. Stupid server!

So, the lack of photographs will, sadly, continue except when I feel like going through the horribly laborious work-around I’ve created. I won’t feel like it very often. Note that all of my photos will be on Flickr after I’ve returned home and I rarely put them on Facebook because I’d rather only share with people I know.
