Wet, wet, wet. It rained over night and was still quite drizzly when I left for work. I locked the puppies in the kitchen. I don’t think they have enough sense to use their kennel.
Not many people about on the walk in but I did see the occasional dog walker. I followed their wet footprints along the path under the A31 bridge and they just vanished. Maybe he was a ghost. Or an alien. Would explain why I don’t see him every day.
I had to wear my raincoat so, of course, I was very hot and steamy as I sat on the train.
Chris has his interview today (applying for one of three jobs) and he was all dressed up in shirt, tie, trousers, shoes…I really don’t understand the hypocrisy here. We all work in an industry that universally accepts that we dress very down but when we go for an interview, we have to dress very up. It’s also the case that interviewees should not swear (or be natural) at interviews, even though we all swear at work.
What is this crap? I know it goes on everywhere but it’s wrong. I remember employing John (at Global) because he was very natural and said “shit” in the interview. Granted, there wasn’t a lot of competition, but even so, I didn’t have a lot of time for bullshit and wanted to employ someone who was ‘real’ and fitted in.
It’s the whole first impression malarkey that makes us all so fake. Even worse with the Chris situation when it’s all internal and everyone knows each other anyway. This was clearly my mistake when I was far too familiar and being myself in my interview.
It was an utterly boring day. To compensate, I’m going to bring my Javascript book in tomorrow and work through it. That has to be better than watching the bloody TV for hours. The thought of finding a new job just grows and grows.
Mirinda went to see Mr Fox, the accountant, today and it seems all her cunning plans are not. UK taxation is a hard piano to successfully move with any kind of skill. Still, we will probably go through with the Farnham sale and purchase in London then, sometime in the next three years, live in it for six months as our principal residence, thereby avoiding a bit of CGT.
I might add that this was my idea! I also suggested that we should have a lodger, the rent would. effectively, lessen the 25% CGT to the government though we would receive it earlier.
Stevie B and Lara are busy getting stuff to fill their flat – they move in on August 1. Tonight he’s off to IKEA for pots, pans and glasses, etc. He was very excited.
The weather was a bit undecided in the afternoon. Wimbledon was halted and it was grey over Farnham. Then it rained on and off during the walk home though it was more cooling than unpleasant.
Work has started on the plot beside the beginning of the Hanger Way. A grader is in there and most of the forage has gone. It will be interesting watching a little plot develop to quite a sizeable space.
Th views on the way home were very clear today – all rain washed and sparkly. It makes the long walk home well worth it.
I made musty, crusty salmon while Mirinda nattered to Farelli on the phone.
Bed late, as usual.
