Temporary abode

Mirinda was supposed to have a book group meeting today to discuss 18th century poetry. Unfortunately, Chawton House Library had a flooded driveway with access limited to boats and seals. It was, therefore, cancelled.

So, rather than waste a holiday, Mirinda worked from home. It could be the last time until the building works are finished.

In the morning, we went and checked out the holiday let we’re thinking of renting for three months starting in April. This will give the builders free reign at the house. It’s close enough that I can pop over to the house fairly often.

The main house is a converted pub and is gorgeous. The one bedroom place we’ll be staying in is a converted outbuilding; one of three. It’s in a village so, as Mirinda says, we’ll be able to experience true village living for a bit. It’s also well within walking distance of the kennels for when I have to book the dogs in.

Sounds perfect…except there’s no fenced area for the dogs so we’ll be going for a few walks and I’ll have to keep an eye on Day-z for when she needs to go to the toilet. It will also spell the end of Nicktor Nights for a while. It will be worth it by the time they’ve finished.

The plan is for them to start tomorrow morning, weather permitting. Mirinda’s iPhone weather prediction looks promising so let’s hope so.

Meanwhile, in my office, I was busy filling out a 30 page form for an advance on the Islington mortgage. I have filled in a lot of forms in my life but this one has to rank up there among the worst. And then, at around 11pm I reached the final page to discover a check list of things to include with the application. The plan was to get it posted off tomorrow but there’s so many bits and pieces to include that I’ll still be working on it.

This is in direct contrast to the Lloyds one. All I had to do was write an email, scan some documents and send them through. All very simple, requiring one signature and a few emails. Why the other one has to be so complicated is beyond me. Still, what can’t be cured must be endured, as the Scots say.

We watched the first episode of a very silly American series called Tower Prep with dinner. We won’t be watching any more episodes. It’s clearly a kid’s show for not very bright kids.
