Tonight we attended the 199th Venison Dinner at Farnham Castle. It was great fun. Everyone made a wonderful spectacle, all dressed up and slowly moving into the Great Hall.
I made a bit of a faux pas. I went to grab the bottle of wine on the table to pour out drinks, even asking the people around us if they’d like some. Jenny (the woman sitting next to me) very generously ignored what I said and asked if it was the one they had ordered. It turned out that you have to buy your wine…we had NO money on us! Consequently, we drank water all night.
Before the main course, the Mayor had to sample the venison which had been piped in with great pomp and ceremony.
After dinner and some lovely cheese, we were treated to four speeches by local dignitaries.
Carriages were at 11 and we were home by 10 past.
Really have to go to the 200th and will certainly be taking cash!
