Palais Royale

palaisroyale.jpg

At the top of the Place Royale is the Palais Royal. This is the official residence of the Belgian royal family but they haven't actually spent much time there, preferring Laeken. It is a 19th century conversion of some late 18th century town houses. The statue to the left of the photo is a dashing equestrian representation of Godfrey de Bouillon one of the leaders of the first crusade and dates from the 1840s.
