Dogs in trees

As I walked down Long Garden Walk having shopped at Waitrose I met a woman

WOMAN: Morning!
GAZ: Morning.
WOMAN: And it’s a lovely one too!
GAZ: That it is. At the moment.
WOMAN: Oh, yes. Fingers crossed for the rest of the day.

Ten minutes later I was walking along the Park Path where I met a man

MAN: Morning!
GAZ: Morning.
MAN: It’s about time this rain stopped!
GAZ: Indeed. We’ve had enough now. Hopefully summer will return.
MAN: Fingers crossed!

Which only goes to show that finger crossing does as much good as throwing salt over your shoulder, touching wood or prayer. Interestingly, while considered a symbol for luck in the West, in some parts of Vietnam crossed fingers is a very rude gesture. Bizarrely, raising just the middle finger in some parts of Vietnam is merely indicating the number one and not ‘up yours’ as it does in the West. Just shows you how silly we all are.

To be completely honest, the weather did improve and was sunny for most of the afternoon. The few drops of rain in the morning were merely an aberration on an otherwise lovely, slightly windy day. Mind you, the temperature is still quite low for summer.

Mirinda was still working (apart from a Skype with Bob) so we stayed home.

While Mirinda was in her library, I was scanning and shredding various documents in my office in-tray as well as completing the tax and sending off the relevant documents to the accountant. I always breath a huge sigh of relief when this is done. It wasn’t made easier this year by the death of my old laptop before I was quite finished. Good job I back everything up. Constantly.

Anyway, that’s another horrid job done for the year.

Mirinda, in one of her breaks from her screen, replanted her alpine bed while Emma tried to plant Freya’s toy. Exasperated, Mirinda threw the toy. But where did it land? This question occupied Emma for ages. Until…

Phew. Tragedy averted.
