Library

What is it with our weather? This is really the worst Christmas, weather-wise, we can remember since moving here.

It hasn’t been cold (the temperature hasn’t managed to get out of double figures here in the south east) and the rain has been pretty much incessant. The floods in the north are a continuing problem and quite a lot of people have had a miserable festive period.

Our poor garden is also suffering. There’s the vast quantities of dog induced mud of course but there’s also the bulbs. They think it’s Spring because of the temperature.

Everywhere I’ve planted them, bulbs are starting to appear. The candy border outside the office, in the raised beds on the terrace, up the back in the Former Residence of Xun Ma, everywhere.

I don’t mind an early spring but it does concern me that if we do get a Winter, it will kill them all.

Mind you, the tepid weather hasn’t stopped the park descending into its yearly bout of quagmire. The quag was doing quite well when I passed it with the dogs today at lunch time.

We decided to follow the all weather path to minimise the mud. It didn’t have much effect. Emma rolls in mud as much as she rolls in sand. It’s very annoying. And of course Freya is so small she just attracts mud naturally.

Still, it was a lovely walk, if you ignore the torrential rain that hit us at the top of the park where I helped a couple of lost souls who couldn’t find the golf course. They had a pair of muddy Westies with them who were loving the mud.

The day had actually started quite well. A bit windy but no rain prompting mum and me into town for the morning.

I finally introduced her to the library then we did a few bits and pieces of shopping before slowly heading back for lunch.

Something I’ve been meaning to mention is the work being carried or on Deers Leap, a house off the park. It’s been going on for quite some time and doesn’t look like finishing any time soon.

Here’s a glimpse of the work up to today:
