Mirinda in the sky

Mirinda left for Qatar first thing this morning. Carole turned up at 7:30 (irritated because her road is being resurfaced, making it difficult to get the car out) and I waved them goodbye.

I then went into Farnham for the first time for weeks. Ignoring the drizzly rain, it felt so good to look at so much greenery and breathe air that wasn’t drenched in harmful toxins. Definitely a world away from Beijing.

The rain didn’t stop all day and it was cold with it. I sat in my office, Skyping with mum and dad, and my breath was expelled in great clouds of white. Meanwhile, of course, mum and dad were sweltering.

I’d saved up my jet lag for today and, therefore, did very little apart from reorganise a few things around the house and finish the post-China washing. The day was so foul, I didn’t really feel like doing anything at all so it worked out quite well. The poodles weren’t particularly happy about not going up to the park but their unhappiness was tempered by having me to themselves for the day.

Mirinda texted me when she arrived in Doha (her flight was okay, though they stopped in Bahrain to pick up a few more passengers, which was annoying). She was treated a bit special at the airport (being entertained by the royal family, clearly has its advantages) and eventually arrived at the hotel.

I called her at about 9:30pm, my time.

There was a minor blip when her room was changed to one on the non-smoking floor but, she reported, her room was very comfortable. Everything, so far, was very different to Beijing.

It was at about this time that I crash landed and had to go to bed.
